2007 NEWS
Jan 1st, 2007,
The Time has come to try something new. Lee and I have done many things in our years of Motorsport involvement. In the beginning Lee built engines from his Van Nuys shop B+B Performance, back in the day Lee set up some of the quickest "street" and "track" cars on small and big tires. From Super Comp, and Alcohol Dragster to Our current Pro Street Car Lee has been diverse in the combinations that he has built and raced. In the early days most all of his door car projects were small tired cars.
Then we went on to owning our own dragstrip in Southwest Missouri, Ozark International Raceway, from 1992-1996 we promoted heads-up racing in the Midwest, at a time when all that was available was bracket racing and NHRA. The Midwest was hungering for some type of heads-up racing. The Street Machine Nationals, a event that we started, still remains one of the Midwests largest all heads up races with capacity crowds from 1992 till today.
In 1996 it was time for another change and Lee and I returned to racing ourselves, when we owned the track is was impossible to race a car and run the track in a safe and professional manner. We started in Outlaw 10.5 with our back half 67 Camaro, and in a short time evolved our program into a Pro/Outlaw Chassis Camaro and then on to our current Jerry Haas built Firebird. Over the last 10 years we have had Our share of wins and losses, we have traveled from one end of the country to the other, racing in every major street car series in the country, including Pro/Edelbrock, NMCA, PSCA, NSCA, Hot Rod Power Festival, Super Chevy, MSRA, ORSCA, Orlando World Street Nationals, US Street Nationals, CMTS Outlaw P/M, Powerglide Promods, and some Ive probably forgot.
in 2005 was another big change for us as we moved our racing operation from Missouri back to Southern California. In 2006 we raced with the PSCA, and garnered a Rare NHRA Pro Street 'Wally' at the Vegas National Open (thanks mel and lvms for having pro street).
Now is the time for a new direction. As The West Coast Pro Street movement moves more and more towards a outlaw pro mod class with no mufflers required, and basic suedo zoomies allowed, no blower overdrive limits, little body or wheelbase limits, it will take a pro mod type car to be competitive and win. As some of the past pro street competitors have done we will change classes to OUTLAW 10.5.
With the recent meetings at the 2006 PRI show and a spec 10.5 tire being agreed on it was clear that retrofitting our firebird for 10.5 tire is the way to go. Once again giving all competitiors in the class a level playing field to compete on. As the rules have evolved, so have the cars, and no longer are the pure back half cars as competitive as they once were. One look at a state of the art 10.5 car shows a suedo chassis car in disguise. The debate over tube chassis cars in outlaw is as heated today as full pro mod cars in pro street.
As our car was built as a mid to late 90's pro stock car the task of changing the car over should be attainable. Our Car fits the PSCA rules quite well, with a stock wheel base and steel rear quarter panels and rockers the change over for PSCA O/10.5 should be ready soon. Later in the year we will have all updates done to make the car legal for the ADRL and ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 even cutting the front end and modifing the shock towers if need be.
In Jan 2007 we will start testing M/T 10.5 tires on our car. We are looking forward to working with the Mickey Thompson Engineers. Many Thanks go out to Mickey Thompson for their continued support of our racing program. Other Sponsors include Mike's Transmission, Mr Gasket/Accel DFI, Nitrous Express, ISKY Racing Cams, Flowmaster Mufflers, SCE Copper Gaskets, MSD Ignition, JE Pistons, Dawson headers
Look for US on the PSCA Midway with Our New Outlaw 10.5 Firebird and Promoting Lee Baltzell Engine Development and my company Marys Designer Beveled Mirrors. Also we will be helping our customers and friends at the races.
See You In the Lanes!
